SXU artist exhibits artwork at Taiyuan Art Museum

Li Deren, a professor teaching at Shanxi University’s Academy of Fine Arts, showcased his paintings at Taiyuan Art Museum between Dec 21 and 26.

The six-day event was co-sponsored by institutions such as Shanxi provincial Party committee, Shanxi University, Shanxi Artists Association, and Shanxi Calligraphers Association.

There were a total of 180 works on show, including Professor Li’s private calligraphy, painting, poems, academic monographs, and albums as well as works he received as gifts from renowned artists, all considered to be of much importance for the promotion of academic studies, local cultures, artistic creations, and education.

Li was praised as a scholar, calligrapher, and painter, prestigious at home and abroad, at the seminar held following the opening ceremony. He was recognized to be an accomplished and distinguished contributor to Shanxi province’s art sector, with a mastery of artistic theories and practices.

Professor Li Deren’s masterpiece, a person in red sits at the edge of a cliff on a high mountain to meditate and gaze upon the snow-white waterfall. Li has focused his studies and creations on traditional Chinese landscape paintings, generally featuring mountains and rivers. He is a member of the China Artists Association and China Calligraphers Association. He is well-versed in art history, Chinese philosophy, textual research, and the internal martial art Xingyi Quan. He has been teaching and painting at Shanxi University since his graduation from the school in 1981.[Photo provided to China Daily]
