Shanxi University's literature research on the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1937-45) in Taihang and Luliang Mountains has been included on a national list of 50 major social science study programs in 2016, Shanxi Daily reported.

The project, conducted by an expert panel led by Professor Yue Qianhou, will spend the next five years collecting literary works and historical records on the war resistance efforts in the mountains.

The initiative is expected to receive 500,000 ($72,700) – 800,000 yuan in subsidies from the Ministry of Education.

A conference explaining the significance, purpose and methods of the project was held at the Shanxi University on Feb 18.

It is the first historical study on the war to win state funding in Shanxi province. And it is the second time for the province to hold a key project on philosophy and social science supported by the Education Ministry in the past 14 years.

China's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was the largest Asian war of the 20th Century with Chinese casualties numbering in the tens of millions.
