Shanxi University is to implement the "1331 Project" initiated by the provincial government in Feb 2017, to promote the teaching of the discipline in social science departments.

The name for the project comes from an abbreviation of the aim to carry out one primary mission (morality education), boost the development in three aspects (key disciplines, labs and innovation teams), deepen the construction of three fields (collaborative innovation centers, engineering and technology research centers, and the strategic alliance of industry, technology and innovation), and create one achievement that benefits the national and regional economy.

Yang Jun, vice-president of SXU, introduced the relevant documents and announced the school's work plan at a conference on Mar 6.

"Social science departments should catch up with the national strategy of building 'first-class disciplines' and 'world-class universities', and be more open-minded and proactive in the construction of discipline clusters, as well as in introducing and cultivating talented individuals," he said.

Officials from every department exchanged ideas on the documents and expressed their confidence in building a distinctive high-level university through their joint efforts.
