A delegation from the National University of Ireland, Cork, also known as the University College Cork (UCC) visited Shanxi University on March 10.

Professor Gao Ce, vice-president of SXU, extended a warm welcome to the delegation headed by Professor Paul Giller, project supervisor of UCC and Professor Sarah Culloty, dean of UCC's School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The two sides reviewed achievements made since the partnership was established in 2014, and focused on collaboration in scientific research as well as on future faculty and student exchanges.

During the visit, Professor Sarah Culloty delivered a speech on the protection of native shellfish in Europe through disease control technologies, which was of great interest to teachers and students at SXU’s College of Life Science.

Founded in 1845, the University College Cork is one of Ireland's leading research institutes, with the highest research income in the country. It is also home to the Irish Institute of Chinese Studies, where students can study Chinese culture and language through Arts and Commerce.
