Shanxi University (SXU) confirmed partnerships with six companies at a conference on April 12, in a bid to promote higher teaching standards in postgraduate education.

Officials from SXU and representatives from the six companies attended the conference and exchanged ideas on various projects, teaching methods, policies and quality control.

Zhang Tiancai, vice-president of SXU, delivered a speech at the conference, describing the challenges and requirements of postgraduate education and the significance of cooperation with the companies involved.

"Every department must follow the national guidelines for building world-class disciplines and a world-class university," said Zhang.

"We must continue to innovate and ensure postgraduate education gives students real practical skills, and insist on industry-university-research cooperation to contribute to social and economic development," he added.

According to Zhang, SXU aims to provide all 18 postgraduate disciplines with university-enterprise education by the end of this year and to develop links with 20 to 30 cooperative partners by the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).
