Eight entries from Shanxi University (SXU) were recently on display at the 15th "Challenge Cup" Shanxi Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition at Taiyuan University of Technology on May 3.

The exhibits included scientific research, field work, inventions and entrepreneurship projects, including the electronic LCD blackboard invented by the Institute of Intelligent Information Processing.

Guo Peixiang, holding a doctorate in history from the Chinese Social History Research Center at SXU, demonstrated his group's work on the development of villages in Shanxi province to Luo Huining, a top official of Shanxi, during the competition.

Luo said that undergraduates should conduct more grassroots social work to help advance socio-economic development in Shanxi.

"Inventions and creative ideas are always encouraged among the young," Luo added.

Some 80 works from 14 colleges from across Shanxi province were displayed at the exhibition.
