The fifth Jinmingchi Forum on Economic History took place at Shanxi University on June 3 and 4, attracting some 100 scholars from colleges and research institutes.

The forum was focused on the collation and research of historical materials about Shanxi merchants and the Tea Road. Many experts delivered speeches on related topics, sharing ideas related to trade and the development of finance in modern China.

The event furthered research into the Tea Road and the history of Chinese business as well as providing a cooperation platform for universities and institutes in related research subjects.

The Jinmingchi Forum on Economic History was initiated by several universities, including Shanxi University, Henan University and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law at the former address of Jinmingchi Garden in Henan province, a royal garden from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) in 2014. It aims to promote partnerships and communication among universities from home and abroad in the research and teaching of economic history.
