Jia Zhongxiao

Jia Zhongxiao, who was born in Wanrong in Shanxi province in July 1963, is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Tsinghua University. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Shanxi University in 1984.
Jia was once invited to visit and deliver lectures at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Macao University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Jilin University and Huazhong Normal University -- as well as at universities and institutes in the UK, Sweden and Singapore.
Jia has been undertaking research into computational mathematics and scientific engineering calculations.
Since 1995, Jia published more than 60 academic papers in prominent domestic and international papers and participated in 10 national-level scientific research foundation programs.
In June 1993, Jia was one of six prizewinners to be awarded the “6th International Youth Numerical Analyst Award-Leslie Fox Award” at the prestigious University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. The award is presented by the British Society of Mathematics and Applied Sciences every two years and goes to young mathematicians who have made important contributions to numerical analysis and scientific calculations worldwide.
In September 1997, Jia was selected by the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the National Natural Science Foundation of China as one of 49 outstanding young and middle-aged mathematicians. In the same year, he was awarded the honorary title of “Dalian Excellent Expert” by the Dalian Municipal Government.
In 2000, two academic papers from Jia were awarded the “Classic Citation Award” by the American Institute of Scientific Information). Only 47 papers from the Chinese scientific and technological community won the award during the period 1981 to 1998.
In January 2001, Jia was selected as one of the “100 outstanding talents program” of Tsinghua University. In April that year, Jia was selected in the first batch of young and middle-aged academic leaders in Liaoning province. In December, Jia won first prize of the third Youth Science and Technology Award of Liaoning Province.
In 2010, Jia was recognized by Shanxi University as being one of its "Outstanding Alumni".
