SXU students break world record for computing performance

Shanxi University (SXU) broke the world record for computing performance at the finals of the ASC20-21 Student Supercomputer Challenge held on May 10 at the Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong province.

Based on the High Performance Linpack benchmark, the Shanxi University team broke the world record of 50.21 teraflops set by Beihang University in 2019. They achieved 76.71 teraflops, ranking third among 21 teams participating in the finals, and following Sun Yat-sen University's 79.04 teraflops and Tsinghua University's 77.92 teraflops.

The ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge was initiated by Asia Supercomputer Community in 2012 and has become the world's largest supercomputing hackathon. Its nine sessions have attracted the participation of more than 10,000 college and university students from around the world.

The competition aims to promote the exchange and training of young supercomputing talent between countries and regions, improve supercomputing application and research and development capabilities, and boost technology and industrial innovation.
