Tang Qian, former assistant director-general of Education at UNESCO and an alumnus of Shanxi University shared his career insights at a special session at the campus on May 20.

Tang studied in the Department of Physical Education at Shanxi University from 1973 to 1976. From 1985 to 1992, he worked in the education section of the Chinese embassy in Canada, the Vocational and Adult Education Department of the Ministry of Education, as well as at the Shaanxi Science and Technology Department. At the work sharing session, he used his more than 20 years of experience at UNESCO to shine a light on the career paths of international civil servants in detail.

He gave a demonstration of his professional practices and discussed his thinking about global governance -- revealing the important consultation processes and the often difficult paths to reaching consensus in the global education agenda, as well as the cooperation and games between the major powers behind the scenes.

Later, Cheng Fangqin, vice president of Shanxi University, conferred Tang with a letter of appointment as a visiting professor at SXU.
