The inaugural meeting for the academic committee of Xinghuacun College at Shanxi University (SXU) – based in Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province – was held on campus on July 22.

The meeting was co-hosted by the university, the Fenyang municipal government and Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group Co. More than 130 officials, faculty members and students of Xinghuacun College and the School of Life Science at the university attended the event.

Fenyang is a county-level city in western Shanxi, famous for its liquor production and the Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group is based there.

Huang Guitian, president of SXU, issued letters of appointment to members of the academic committee at the meeting.

Huang said the joint establishment of Xinghuacun College was an initiative that would explore a new model for administering the university and lead to innovation in government-industry-university cooperation.

He added that Shanxi University would provide an optimal platform for the development of the college and through it, SXU would improve its administration skills.

Jia Yongxiang, deputy secretary of the Fenyang municipal Party committee, said the Fenyan authorities would attach great importance to the development of Xinghuacun College and would help in any way they could.

Yang Bo, director of Shanxi Xinghuacun Fenjiu Group Co, said that the development of Xinghuacun College should integrate the resources of the university and the company, explore flexible cooperation methods and training mechanisms, expand professional capabilities and promote innovation.

The first academic committee meeting of Xinghuacun College was held subsequently and the members of the academic committee reviewed and discussed the "Work Summary and Plan of Xinghuacun College".
