The fifth Summer School of Carbon-based Materials and Nano-devices held by Peking University and Shanxi University (SXU) opened online at SXU on Aug 2.

At the opening ceremony, Ma Jie, vice-president of SXU, discussed the development trajectory and goals of the Shanxi Provincial Government in the building of new carbon-based materials industrial clusters.

Ma said that Shanxi has signed an agreement with Peking University to jointly build the Peking University's Shanxi Carbon-based Thin Film Electronics Research Institute at SXU, and Shanxi University has established the Advanced Functional Materials and Devices Research Institute for future semiconductor technology innovation and industrial development.

He also invited outstanding young students at home and abroad to join the research team for carbon-based materials in Shanxi.

More than 300 scholars and students from 45 universities and research institutions at home and abroad, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Stanford University, and RIKEN, attended the online event.

The summer school will focus on research in the field of carbon-based electronics and carbon-based nano-devices.

Distinguished scholars from home and abroad will be invited to introduce major developments and analyze issues in related fields, provide students with opportunities for learning and understanding the forefront of international academics in carbon-based materials and nano-devices, and offer both scholars and students a platform for exchange.
