Residents from Suzhou city in East China's Jiangsu province will be able to travel to downtown Shanghai more conveniently in the near future as the latter recently unveiled a new intercity railway plan.
The line will start from Shanghai's Hongqiao district, run through Minhang and Qingpu districts, and stop at Shuixiang Keting, or Watertown Meeting Room, a picturesque junction between Shanghai and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
Stretching 50 kilometers, the line will have eight stations with provisional names such as Fanglelu Station, Xulebeilu Station, Zhaochonggonglu Station, Huaqinglu Station, Qingpu Xincheng Station, Zhujiajiao Station, Xicen Station and Shuixiang Keting Station. The Shuixiang Keting Station will be built near Jinze, an ancient town known for its bridges and is in close proximity to the border between Suzhou and Shanghai.
The line also provides easy access to attractions in the Yangtze River Delta integrated development demonstration zone as it was designed to be connected to a water town tourism route in Jiangsu province and another railway section from Jiashan county to Xitang ancient town in Zhejiang province.
Suzhou Rail Transit Line 10, Shanghai Metro Line 17 and Jiaxing Rail Transit Line 3 will also be connected to the Shuixiang Keting Station in the future.
