A promotional event in Taipei briefed local businesses on the 2016 Xiamen Industry Exposition, an annual commercial fair in Xiamen, to attract potential exhibitors and visitors.
The expo, also known as the China Xiamen Machinery and Electronics Exhibition, was inaugurated in 1997. One of its goals is to accelerate trade and economic exchanges between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan by promoting business.
The Dec 2 event was hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronics Products and the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs.
Li Rongmin, director of the chamber's Taipei office, said that the expo is an important platform for cross-Straits cooperation and has attracted thousands of business people from Taiwan each year.
Li said that the mainland is adapting to the "new normal" of economic growth and is carrying out new development strategies. These initiatives and plans have prompted vast opportunities for Taiwan businesses to grow with their mainland counterparts. Li said the result of this cooperation will be mutually beneficial because the Taiwan and mainland companies can share their resources.
The 2016 expo will have six exhibition areas for machine tools, rubber and plastics, industrial robots and more, according to Wang Qiongwen, director of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs, who confirmed the expo's focus on intelligent manufacturing.
The event was attended by nearly 100 representatives from business associations and companies in Taiwan. Lin Zhongsen, chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, said that he expected the expo to become a platform of exchange for Taiwan and mainland enterprises.
At the 2015 expo, a total of 1,000 enterprises set up 3,800 booths, including 750 booths set by Taiwan enterprises.
