More than 100 officials from seven countries along the Belt and Road route came to Xiamen, Fujian province to learn Mandarin on Sept 14, local media reported.

The 105 officials from Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, and Vietnam are expected to study the Chinese language and experience Chinese culture at the city's Huaqiao University for a year.

Xu Xipeng, president of the Xiamen university, said that the school has formulated a detailed training plan that offers the officials an excellent learning and living experience in Xiamen.

Launched by Huaqiao University in 2005, the Mandarin learning class has cultivated more than 800 officials from eight countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, Angola, Malaysia, Cambodia and Surinam.
