A promotional conference for the Phoenix Park in Trinidad and Tobago was held in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on April 20.

The event was hosted by Trinidad and Tobago's embassy in China, the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen and the Xiamen Committee of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, with government officials and representatives of more than 30 companies taking part.

Trinidad and Tobago is an important partner of China in the Caribbean region, said Yao Jianhong, deputy director of XMFAO, at the conference.

He said he hopes that Xiamen and Trinidad and Tobago will seek more opportunities in economic cooperation to benefit people from both sides.

Yao also encouraged local companies to increase their efforts to expand their markets in the Americas to achieve "win-win" development.

H.E. Adrian Thomas, a representative of Trinidad and Tobago's embassy in China, said his country is the first English speaking country in the Caribbean region to take part in the Belt and Road Initiative and the Phoenix Park is the first BRI project that China has built in partnership with a Caribbean country.

He welcomed companies in Xiamen and Fujian province to invest in the park and promised that the local government will spare no efforts to promote companies' development there.

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province and its sister city Wellington, New Zealand reached consensus on cooperation in the film and television industry during a video meeting on April 22.

The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in film exhibitions and evaluation, talent training, holding forums and post production, taking the Golden Rooster Awards, which will be held in Xiamen for 10 years since 2019, as a platform.

Xiamen and Wellington have achieved fruitful results in cooperation in various fields since their sister-city ties were established 34 years ago, said Lin Na, executive vice-president of Xiamen Municipal People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

Lin noted that Wellington is a global film production hub that boasts first-class facilities and talent, while Xiamen is dubbed the “most beautiful natural film studio” for its charming coastal landscapes and year-round warm weather and is the host city for the Golden Rooster Awards.

She said the strengths of both sides have laid a solid foundation for exchange in the film and TV industry, which will further strengthen the friendship between the two cities.

An official from the Wellington government agreed with Lin, stating that Wellington has attached great importance to its friendship with Xiamen and has been expecting the two cities to deepen cooperation in culture, education, and the film industry.
