1. Xiamen celebrates Thailand's National Day

The Consulate General of Thailand in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, held a reception on Dec 3 to celebrate the country's National Day.

Huang Yantian, vice-mayor of Xiamen, attended the reception and expressed gratitude for the consulate general's contribution to promoting exchanges between the city and Thailand.

He said that the Xiamen government has attached great importance to its friendship with Thailand and the two sides have achieved fruitful results in trade, culture, tourism and educational cooperation.

He hoped that the two sides would grasp the opportunities brought about by the Belt and Road Initiative and Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor to strengthen trade and cultural exchanges to create more mutual benefits.

Pirawat Atsavapranee, consul general of Thailand in Xiamen, said that China and Thailand have maintained a long-lasting friendship. The consulate general will spare no efforts to facilitate solid cooperation between its country, Fujian and Xiamen.

2. Xiamen shares waste management experience at UN exchange

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province attended the South-South Online Experience Exchange on Waste Management, which was held on Dec 6 by the urban project team of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the Uzbekistan office of the United Nations Development Programme, and the UN-Habitat solid waste management team.

Xiamen has ranked first 14 quarters in a row among 46 Chinese cities that have been designated by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development to take the lead in implementing mandatory classification of residential waste.

At the meeting, Wang Lin, an official in charge of Xiamen's waste sorting administration, shared the city's experience in waste sorting and disposal and management which won the approval among other attendees.

3. XMFAO holds video meeting with Santiago, Chile

The foreign affairs office of Xiamen in Fujian province held a video meeting with Santiago Metropolitan Region government officials in Chile on Dec 8.

Lin Na, vice-president of the Xiamen Municipal People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, updated the Chilean officials with Xiamen's latest economic and social development as well as the city's international exchanges.

She said that Xiamen and the Santiago Metropolitan Region have reached an agreement to sign a letter of intent for friendly exchange, which will be a new starting point for both sides to facilitate cooperation in trade, culture, sports and education.

She also expressed her hope that the Santiago Metropolitan Region would continue to support Xiamen in its construction of the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center.

Nicolas Azocar, newly appointed chief of international relations of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, said he is looking forward to exchanges in the aforementioned fields and he also hopes to seek cooperation opportunities in safe governance and sustainable development as well as work and production resumption amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
