Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport recently added six new international freight routes that link Xiamen with cities in Australia, Qatar and Ethiopia, Xiamen Daily reported.
According to the Gaoqi port customs, the port has dealt with a surging number of inbound and outbound cargo planes since the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, with the total number exceeding 5,000.
During the first quarter of this year, the airport received about 50 cargo planes converted from passenger aircrafts weekly, up nearly 41.4 percent year-on-year.
Port customs has carried out a series of special measures to ensure air cargo transport amid the epidemic, including streamlining flight declaration procedures and upgrading examination facilities.
On March 29, a cargo aircraft from Beja, Portugal landed at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and it took less than five minutes for customs officials to complete the examination.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
