Xiamen, Philippines seek to deepen cooperation

Zhuang Rongliang, vice-mayor of Xiamen, met with Jesus Domingo, vice-minister of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, on July 20 to further strengthen communication on trade, culture and other areas.

During the meeting, Zhuang spoke about Xiamen's achievements since the implementation of China's reform and opening-up policy and highlighted the deep ties that Xiamen already has with the Philippines.

According to Zhuang, the two sides have engaged in extensive cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, culture and tourism, education, and healthcare since their sister city relations were established in 1984.

Zhuang added that the visit from the Philippines is expected to further expand the scope and depth of their exchanges and cooperation, and called on efforts to seize the opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative and the BRICS for mutual cooperation and development.

Jesus Domingo, who is visiting Xiamen for the first time, expressed his admiration for the city's achievements, particularly in the digital economy and green development. He expressed his desire to engage in more practical cooperation with Xiamen in various fields.
