Huang Wenhui, mayor of Xiamen, met with Gyorgy Matolcsy, governor of Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB), the national bank of Hungary, and his delegation on May 28.

Huang welcomed the visitors from Hungary and briefly introduced Xiamen’s economic and social development situation. He mentioned that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, highlighting the longstanding friendship between the two peoples.

Xiamen is one of the first four special economic zones in China to implement the policy of opening up to the outside world. It has a strong industrial base, excellent innovation capabilities, and a superior business environment. The financial services industry is a pillar industry of the city.

Huang emphasized that Xiamen and Hungary share many commonalities, with their economies complementing each other well and creating many opportunities for cooperation. He said that Xiamen is willing to work with Hungary to further deepen and expand friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as contribute more to the development of the China-Hungary all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era.

Matolcsy expressed his gratitude for the warm reception in Xiamen and highly praised the tremendous achievements made by the city since reform and opening up began.

He stated that Hungary has always adhered to a policy of friendliness towards China and was the first European country to sign a Belt and Road cooperation agreement with China. He said he looks forward to using this visit to Xiamen as an opportunity to further enhance mutual understanding, tap into cooperation potential, and promote mutually beneficial development between the two regions.
