Madrid's 11th Chinese New Year Carnival performances illuminated the city in Spain on Feb 22. A Huizhou fish lantern parade, held in the Parque del Prado de Talavera, transformed the city into a dynamic celebration of Chinese culture.
The event drew a massive crowd of approximately 110,000 residents, tourists, and members of the Chinese community — more than double last year's attendance. Among the distinguished guests was Marta Rivera de la Cruz, Madrid's Councillor for Culture, Tourism and Sports.
Performers in traditional attire, joined by students from the Confucius Institute and local schools, transformed the streets into a lively celebration of Chinese culture. The procession featured martial arts, dragon and lion dances accompanied by traditional drums and cymbals, circus acts, and giant inflatable horses honoring the Year of the Horse.
The lively Huizhou fish lantern parade drew a large audience, while the entire celebration was a spectacular showcase of intangible cultural heritages from China. The parade was joined on the grand stage by the Wushidao Martial Arts School and the Yingge Youth Art Troupe from Guangdong, who performed Yingge dance and martial arts.
The month-long celebration will continue until March 3.
