Young makers show their stuff in Beijing
The final of the 2017 China–US Young Maker Competition and its sub activities were held at the China Millennium Monument in Beijing from Aug 7 to 11, where 70 teams pitted their innovative projects against each other aiming at solving real world problems.
It is the fourth year the competition has been run, attracting some 300 tinkerers and makers from across the two countries to take part.
With the preliminary rounds beginning in Chengdu on May 10, the 11 subsequent rounds of the contest have been held all across China and the US.
As a special nod to the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong being reunited with the Chinese mainland, teams from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region were invited to take part.
Winning entries were announced at an awards ceremony held at the China Millennium Monument on Aug 11, and exhibited at the Maker Beijing Fair from Aug 11 to 13.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Education and supported by the Beijing municipal government, the China–US Young Maker Competition has attracted projects covering industries such as education, health, transportation and energy. The contest acts as a platform for creative young people to show their skills and interact with one another.
