Updated: Dec 12, 2017 L M S

The first 10 companies signed workroom rental contracts with Zhongguancun Maker Town on Dec 6.

Zhongguancun's Maker Town at the center of the Zhongguancun Science Park officially became operational on Nov 24, with over 350 maker teams as tenants.

The 26,800 square meters of office space in the town provides for companies with 485 open worktables and seven independent offices. In order to promote exchanges between makers, some four brainstorming zones have been set up, as well as 11 closed meeting rooms of different sizes.

The town's leisure areas include places for idea communication, photography learning, open reception and negotiation, smoking and tea rooms.

The town has realized the transformation from "co-working" to "co-working + living", allowing startup teams to live and work in the same place in a bid to ease the pressures of expensive accommodation, commercial rental costs and long commutes.

The town has constructed the country's first public rental service especially for startups, offering a total of 2,772 furnished flats. The occupancy rate of the rental housing reached 63 percent this September.

The Zhongguancun Maker Town, covering a total area of 59,000 square meters, provides office space for more than 600 small and micro scientific startups and brings together more than 5,000 high-tech talents.

At present, the town has set up a branch in Austin City in the United States and established strategic partnerships with three Iran incubators and over ten renowned domestic incubators. It has clustered 50 scientific service institutes, 57 investment institutes and 104 scientific innovation tutors.
