Zhongguancun Science Park, commonly known as China's Silicon Valley, carried its preferential talent introduction policies across the world to the United Kingdom on March 22 local time.

The park's London liaison office hosted an exchange event at the Shard in London, capital of the UK, to exchange thoughts on scientific research cooperation between China and the UK, as well as on Zhongguancun's new policies on the introduction of overseas talents.

Twenty policies went into effect on Feb 27 to deepen talent management reforms in Zhongguancun and to create an internationally competitive talent introduction mechanism.

These measures will primarily promote reforms in four areas, including facilitating the entry and exit of foreign talents, making it easier to introduce and make use of foreign talents, offering support to foreign talents who wish to start their own businesses, and enhancing security services for foreign talents.

Jiang Sunan, counselor at the Science and Technology Department of the Chinese Embassy in the UK, discussed recent achievements in China-UK cooperation on scientific and technological innovation.

He said that under the framework of the China-UK Research and Innovation Partnership Fund, the governments of the two countries have funded more than 200 scientific studies and carried out 460 cooperative projects in areas such as new energy, urbanization, lightweight manufacturing, robotics, and 5G.

Cheng Jianfang, head of the park's London liaison office, said that these 20 newly-issued policies are highly targeted and demonstrative. Most of them are the first of their kind in the country, and some are being piloted in Beijing.

She explained that Zhongguancun introduces a number of special measures every year to attract talents. The park has implemented a policy allowing foreign talents to apply for a residence permit valid for over one year, and 353 people have made use of it so far.
