2019 Zhongguancun "5G Empowers Future Industries" parallel forum held
The 2019 Zhongguancun "5G Empowers Future Industries" Forum, or the second Zhongguancun 5G Innovative Application Competition, co-sponsored by the Zhongguancun Management Committee, the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Communications, was held in the Zhongguancun Exhibition Center on the morning of October 18, 2019.

The project was undertaken by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (hereinafter referred to as "CAICT").
In the form of "Achievement Release + Keynote Speech + Roundtable Dialogue", the forum invited experts from international science and technology organizations, from research institutes and industry leaders themselves to discuss the opportunities and space for the future development of 5G, including 5G innovations for personal life and industry development in the era of Internet of everything.
Qi Guohua, chairman of the China Communications Standards Association, attended the forum and delivered a speech. Qi said that the Zhongguancun 5G Application Competition promoted the development of 5G applications, and proposed initiatives to accelerate network construction, promote industry applications, develop new terminals, develop standards and build a good ecosystem. Liu Hang, deputy inspector of Zhongguancun Administrative Committee, introduced the overall situation of the 5G competition.
Liu said that compared with last year's competition, this year's competition showed five characteristics: wider coverage, wider scope of application, higher maturity of application projects, more demonstration of entries, and a focus on financial linkage services.
Gu Jinxu, chief engineer of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said that a number of 5G special application projects incubated in this year's competition will be settled at Zhongguancun. In the future, Beijing will promote the 5G demonstration applications, striving to lead the innovative development of the 5G industry in the whole country.
Leaders from China Communications Standards Association, Zhongguancun Management Committee, Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, Beijing Municipal Bureau of Communications and other units jointly presented certificates and trophies to 15 companies, including China Mobile Research Institute, Jincheng Medicine and Sumavision.
Gitanjali Sah, senior expert of the strategic planning department of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); Wu Hequan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Pang Ce, general manager in Greater China strategic cooperation of GSMA; Zhang Tongxu, president of China Mobile Research Institute and general manager of the Northeast Asia Network Solutions of Ericsson, and Cao Zejun, director of strategy and marketing of Huawei China, gave keynote speeches on the theme of the forum.
Gitanjali Sah said that ITU is committed to building a convenient communications network, improving existing networks and actively constructing the next generation of ICT infrastructure, giving everyone access to information resources such as employment, health and education.
Wu Hequan said that the convergence of 5G, Internet of Things, cloud computing and artificial intelligence has spawned new formats, but it also brings new risks in privacy protection, information security and legal adaptability.
It is important to improve technologies, management and legal system in the development. Pang Ce said that 5G will drive the fourth industrial revolution, the key to development is the ecosystem and vertical industries, and that operators need more cooperation and investment.
At the end of the forum, the guests held a dialogue on the theme of "the space and opportunities 5G brought for future industries", and launched hot discussions on issues such as 5G's impact on global economic and social development and personal life and industrial development, as well as the challenges faced by 5G development.
Under the theme of "cutting-edge technology and future industries", the 2019 Zhongguancun Forum was co-sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Government, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the China Association for Science and Technology.
As one of the most important parallel forums of the 2019 Zhongguancun Forum, the "5G Empowers Future Industries" Forum aims to discuss the future development trends of 5G and ways to strengthen cooperation in 5G innovation so as to accumulate frontier ideas on 5G innovation development.
About 200 people from international scientific and technological organizations, state organs, research institutes and industry-leading enterprises attended the forum.
