School of Asian Studies

The School of Asian Studies was founded in 2018 on the basis of the School of Oriental Languages. It has two departments and two majors --Korean and Indian. In 2000, the Korean Department was established, with its origin dating back to 1972. The school is authorized to offer bachelor's and master’s degrees, both academic ones and professional ones. For the academic master's programs, there are Chinese-Korean Translation, Korean Literature Study and Korean Language Study, and in terms of the professional master's degree there is a program called Korean Interpreting.

Advantages and Characteristics

The school has experienced faculty members in teaching and research. All the full-time teachers studied abroad, and 80% of them are professors or associate professors. Foreign teachers from prominent overseas universities are invited to participate in teaching all-year round. The active teaching atmosphere has brought remarkable achievements.

Students from the School of Asian Studies have established a mutual learning relationship with overseas students on campus. Frequent international exchanges create a unique foreign language learning environment for students.

International Exchanges

The school has kept friendly exchanges with prominent universities including Korean Ewha Women’s University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, KyungHee University, Dong-A University, Kookmin University, Chung-Ang University, Chungbuk National University, Daegu University, Busan University of Foreign Studies, Kim II-sung University, and Somaiya Vidyavihar University. Over 85% of the students in each grade of the Korean Department are sent to South Korea or North Korea for a one-year-study. Each year, the school would recommend outstanding senior students to pursue their master's degrees in South Korea.

The postgraduate students of the Korean Department study for two years in China and one year abroad. 

Practices

Students from the school have won many domestic and international competition awards such as the Korean Air Cup Speech Contest, the World Korean Writing Competition, and the Seoul Korean Speech Contest. They actively participate in various activities such as international conferences, volunteer work abroad and professional internships in well-known enterprises. Every year, the school holds a variety of campus cultural activities, including the Korean Cultural Festival, to expand the students’ vision and promote their all-around development.

Employment

Many graduates from the School of Asian Studies work in government agencies and public institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of State Security as well as the customs, TV stations, universities, and tourist enterprises. The employment rate has remained at 100 percent.
