BISU students participate in global immersion program
Updated: March 18, 2025

Six students from the School of Middle Eastern Studies of Beijing International Studies University (BISU) were selected for the Global Immersion Arabic Language Program hosted by the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language in Saudi Arabia. This two-month program aims to enhance participants' Arabic language skills and deepen their understanding of Saudi culture through diverse language practices and cultural experiences.

A core component of the program is the immersive Arabic language classes, where students from around the world engage in listening, speaking, reading, and writing exercises through role-playing, group discussions, and situational dialogues. This interactive environment helps students improve their language skills and expand their international networks.

"Classroom interactions are very engaging, and the teachers use vivid examples to help us understand complex grammar and vocabulary," said Xie Dongxu, a 2023 Arabic interpretation graduate student. "By interacting with classmates from different countries, my spoken language skills have improved significantly."

In addition to language classes, students can experience Saudi culture firsthand by visiting local families, enjoying traditional meals, and participating in cultural activities.

"It was my first time visiting a Saudi family. The hosts were very welcoming, prepared a sumptuous meal for us, and even taught us how to express gratitude and blessings in the Saudi dialect," shared Xiong Mengting, a 2023 Arabic interpretation graduate student. "This experience gave me a deeper understanding of Saudi culture."

They also explored Riyadh's modern commercial centers such as the Kingdom Centre and Riyadh Boulevard, gaining insights into Saudi Arabia's economic development and consumer culture.

"The commercial districts in Riyadh are very modern, featuring both international brands and local specialty products," said undergraduate student Yang Jingyi. "Here, not only I witnessed Saudi Arabia's economic development but I also bought many meaningful souvenirs."

The program also includes cultural excursions to nearby cities like Marat, where students learn about Saudi Arabia's historical and cultural heritage. These visits help them gain a deeper understanding of the region's diversity and traditions.

To enhance integration into local life, each international student is paired with a Saudi student for language exchange, fostering mutual learning and cultural exchange.

During the program, students stay at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, enjoying comfortable accommodations with modern amenities, which support their learning and relaxation needs.

This global immersion program not only offers BISU students an opportunity for intensive language learning and cultural exposure but also strengthens the university's academic exchanges and collaborations in the Middle East.

Looking ahead, BISU plans to expand international partnerships, providing more opportunities for students to study and intern abroad, thereby fostering globally competent talents and contributing to cross-cultural exchanges.
