Beijing’s Daxing district has rolled out a favorable activity to guarantee agricultural product supplies for 200 housing estates in the district’s five towns and 15 communities, promising up to 100,000 kg of vegetables and fruits in more than 10 categories.

"The homegrown vegetables and fruits are fresh and delicious but at moderate price, and buying once or twice a week is enough for the whole family, so that people can have peace of mind about their food," said a resident surnamed Wang on July 6.

The activity, initiated by the district’s agriculture and rural authority,  civil affairs bureau, was implemented by a joint association of production and sales facilities as well as a marketing center.

In order to allow people to eat safe and bargain-priced food, the association and marketing center first conducted field visits to agricultural enterprises and cooperatives in the area.

A green channel between the planting bases and communities was opened to reduce intermediate links and contacts, thereby safeguarding the quality and price stability of the products.

Strict measures have been made to ensure workers’ safety and food security. The vehicles entering the community are marked with identical signs for distinction and accept disinfection in accordance with a single standard, as does the processing workshop, and the staff with work certificates undergo unified nucleic acid testing. Another good point is that all the vegetables are priced identically, according to a knowledgeable staffer.

The district conducts both online and offline sales to meet different people’s needs. Residents are able to make reservations through community groups in WeChat for integrated purchases, and the vegetables are delivered to them in a direct way. Elderly people often chose to buy food onsite.

Daxing vows to offer better services to its locals by expanding supply channels, enriching fruit and vegetable categories, and selecting higher-quality agricultural products.
