One of the awardees, Ma Xiuhua, president of a local hospital, led the staff members as they raced against the clock to strengthen preparedness for the COVID-19 outbreak.

At the beginning of last year, the hospital was identified as the only designated treatment unit in the local area. Ma stuck into the frontline late into the night every day, personally controlling the treatment plan and process and personnel arrangement.

Thanks to their efforts, there was no misdiagnosis of positive patients and no delay in emergency or limited-time operations. Notably, none of the medical staff in the hospital became infected.

"I feel excited and happy but stressed to receive the title. In the past 30 years, I just did what I should do in an ordinary position. It is my greatest honor to safeguard the public's health," said Ma.

Eight developers from Beijing Hotgen Biotechn Co were also awarded for their hard work in the fight against the virus. Faced with the outbreak, they carried out preliminary research into testing reagents.

The IgM antibody test kits they made are able to make a diagnosis within just 15 minutes. The first batch of qualified products was sent to Wuhan Huoshenshan makeshift hospital as soon as possible.
