The exhibits come from Jinzhong, a city located in the heart of Shanxi province, where over 2,000 years of agricultural culture on China's Loess Plateau and 500 years of Shanxi merchant culture have endowed this land with a brilliant heritage.

In 2010, the Ministry of Culture (now the Ministry of Culture and Tourism) established a national-level cultural ecological protection experimental zone in Jinzhong. In 2023, the city was designated as a national-level cultural ecological protection zone by the ministry.

The continuous relay of 13 years of construction has made the city's intangible cultural heritage shine even more brightly and deeply embedded in the lives of every local resident.

Here, one will encounter the melodious and smooth Jin Opera; be captivated by the simple yet passionate, light and agile Zuoquan Xiaohuaxi Opera; delve into the ancient, mysterious and unpredictable Xingyi Quan, hailed as one of the four renowned Chinese martial arts; admire the exquisite craftsmanship of Pingyao hand-polished lacquerware, one of China's four major lacquerwares; and appreciate the renowned Dingkundan and Guilingji, celebrated for their rare ingredients, meticulous preparation and remarkable therapeutic effects.

The exhibition also presents the rich achievements of the protection zone over the past 13 years, showcasing over 100 splendid intangible cultural heritage items that have emerged from the flow of life and the sweep of history. It invites everyone to deeply experience the boundless charm and enduring vitality of Jinzhong culture.

Immersing oneself into this exhibition is like stepping into the evolutionary civilization of Jinzhong's land and water. The harmony and beauty shared by all reflect the local people's aspiration for a better life.
