Established in 2003, Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum (SIIPF) is an international conference on intellectual property held annually in Shanghai. Having run for 15 years, it has become a major global forum for IP and an important window for the field in China.

Based on a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Intellectual Property between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Shanghai government signed in 2014 and its supplementary agreement signed in 2018, WIPO became one of the organizers of SIIPF in 2014.

Since 2014, WIPO has been working with its organizing partners -- the China National IP Administration and the Shanghai government -- to deliver an innovative cooperation model for running SIIPF.

This cooperation has enhanced the global impact of SIIPF, qualifying it as a high-quality international IP event.

To fulfill the requirements of the China National IP Administration and the Shanghai government set out in the Workshop Exploring the Mode of Cooperation in IP for the year 2019-2020 and to deepen Shanghai's international cooperation and exchanges in IP, the 16th SIIPF will be held in Shanghai from Oct 21 to 22.

It will have as its theme "Enhancing international cooperation in IP protection and building a world-class business environment".

The forum will be a platform delivering the latest achievements and best practice in IP from home and abroad, as well as integrating an international vision with best practice in China.

During SIIPF, delegates will share their experiences and case studies, engage in discussion and debates, to explore ways of building a world-class IP protection system and explore the roles of IP in creating a sound and efficient business environment.

Insights and advanced experiences from around the world generated from SIIPF will help Shanghai deepen its reform and opening-up plan in the new era.

They will accelerate the city's innovation-driven development and its building of "Five Centers" (an international economic center, a financial center, a trade center, a shipping center and a science and technology innovation center), enhance its status as an Asia-Pacific IP hub and contribute to the integration of the Yangtze River Delta region.

SIIPF 2019 will be attended by approximately 300 people. Speakers will be leaders from international and regional IP organizations, representatives from the European Union, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, among others. They will conduct in-depth discussions with delegates from relevant government departments, companies, research institutes and service agencies.
