Artworks promote National Winter Games mascots
Students in Yuquan district, Hohhot, the capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Nov 18 create artworks of the mascots of the upcoming 14th National Winter Games. The 14th National Winter Games -- which will kick off on Feb 16, 2020 in Hulunbuir -- is the first large comprehensive sporting event to be hosted by Inner Mongolia in over 70 years. The games will also be the most significant winter sporting event held in China before the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games. [Photo/Inner Mongolia Daily]

A teacher explains the meaning of the mascots to the students, on Nov 18. The mascots are modeled after Mongolian children wearing Mongolian costumes. The boy character is named An Da in the Mongolian language, which translates as “friend” in Chinese. The girl is called Sai Nu in the Mongolian language, meaning “hello” in Chinese. The combination of these two words – hello friend – shows the hospitality of Mongolian people. [Photo/Inner Mongolia Daily]
