An auction of high-quality cotton held by the China Cotton Industry Alliance kicked off on Sunday at an agricultural science and technology park in Changji Hui autonomous prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The CCIA was founded by the Cotton Research Institute of the China Academy of Agricultural Science and 208 enterprises and institutions involved in cotton production, processing, logistics, textiles and the clothing industry, aiming to strengthen collaboration and exchanges.

The CCIA has set up a high-quality cotton cultivation base of more than 660,000 hectares. More than 5,000 tons of cotton were sold to five textile companies at the auction.

Ma Xiongfeng, vice-director of the institute, said the auction promotes the production of high-quality cotton and the sustainable development of China's cotton industry.
