Introduction on Urban Renewal Forum of High Quality Development of China’s Cities
Events to celebrate World Cities Day, an annual United Nations observance day, were first held in Shanghai on Oct 31, 2014. This year, the celebration event will be hosted by Shanghai with the theme “Adapting Cities for Climate Resilience” in a bid to comprehensively enhance cities’ resilience, social tolerance, and ability to tackle climate disasters.
The Urban Renewal Forum of High Quality Development of China’s Cities (Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Metropolitan Area) will begin in Changsha, Central China’s Hunan province, on Oct 23, to mark the opening of the event.
The forum, with the theme “High-quality Urban Development”, will focus on key issues of national urban renewal and share the metropolitan area’s experiences in sustainable urban development, innovative urban governance and improvement of human settlements.
As an example of high-quality development achievements in the central region, Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan have taken multiple measures in urban renewal and made great achievements.
Apart from keynote speeches and dialogues, forum activities will also include a signing ceremony for urban renewal projects in key areas of the metropolitan area, an awards ceremony and exhibition for a photography competition themed on global urban human settlements, the release of Changsha Urban Human Settlements Index BlueBook, and short videos that record Changsha's urban renewal achievements.
More than 300 attendees will witness the opening ceremony, including officials of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, related provinces and cities, as well as domestic academics, experts and representatives of enterprises and industries.
The forum will be hosted by China Construction News, the Changsha Municipal People’s Government, Zhuzhou Municipal People’s Government, and Xiangtan Municipal People’s Government, and organized by the Changsha Urban Human Settlements Bureau, Zhuzhou Municipal Housing and Urban Rural Development Bureau, and Xiangtan Municipal Housing and Urban Rural Development Bureau.
