Mid-May is the best time to view the park's common peonies and Chinese herbaceous peonies. Its peony gardens, which are home to 36,000 common peonies and 45,000 Chinese herbaceous peonies in total, are said to have among the most numerous and varied peony flowers in northwestern China.
