During an interview in May, Li Yunjiang, a first-year student at the China University of Geosciences (CUG), said that he had drawn inspiration and strength from the CUG Volunteer Teaching Team of Graduate Students in his endeavor to study at the Wuhan-based university.

Li comes from a rural family in Chuxiong Yi autonomous prefecture, Southwest China's Yunnan province. He received lots of assistance from the CUG Volunteer Teaching Team of Graduate Students when its members came to his school in 2018.

Li said that he dreamed of studying at the CUG and become their teammates because of their profound knowledge, sincerity and passion.

In 2021, Li was admitted to the CUG as he wished. The first thing that he did was to find those who previously helped him and ask for a recommendation to join the CUG Volunteer Association.

Li noted that he would strive to join the CUG Volunteer Teaching Team of Graduate Students and do his utmost to create more opportunities for children like him to receive better education in the future.

Statistics show that 134 members of the CUG Volunteer Teaching Team of Graduate Students have acted as volunteer teachers in primary and middle schools of remote areas in western China since its establishment in 2004.

Han Peng, a team leader of the CUG Volunteer Teaching Team of Graduate Students, said that there are many inspirational examples like Li who are both recipients and contributors of volunteer teaching programs.

For instance, Ma Lijuan, who also comes from the mountainous areas of Yunnan, travelled to Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region to offer volunteer teaching services after graduating from the CUG.

Han stressed that people of the CUG Volunteer Teaching Team of Graduate Students have conveyed love and hope and fulfilled their duties and responsibilities in the participation of volunteering teaching programs over the past 18 years.
