Three generations of "sand warriors" in the Baijitian National Nature Reserve have reforested 420 hectares of shrubs to help curb the expansion of the Maowusu Desert and ensure the ecological security of the Yellow River.

The reserve, located in Lingwu city, Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region, used to be barren and no plants could grow in the soil. At present, the reserve has witnessed both an increase in natural forest coverage and a brighter ecosystem.

"Thanks to their perseverance over the last six decades, there has been a 20 kilometer retreat along the edge of the farmlands in the city," said Wang Xingdong, Party Secretary of the Baijitian National Nature Reserve Administration.
