Academicians, experts and scholars from agricultural technology societies exchanged ideas from June 24-26 on how science and technology can help boost rural revitalization in Central China’s Hunan province.
The event was held in Wangcheng district of Changsha city and Fenghuang county of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, a model of poverty alleviation in ethnic areas in Hunan province. It was held by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Hunan provincial government.
Nearly 100 experts and local representatives attended the onsite activities, in addition to 100,000 online participants. The event consisted of four sections: a forum on rural revitalization with science and technology, a science and technology volunteer service training, an expert tour to rural areas in Hunan, and an expert volunteer service.
At the forum, Ke Bingsheng, chairman of the China Rural Special Technology Association and former president of China Agricultural University; Zhang Fusuo, vice-chairman of the China Rural Special Technology Association and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Yin Yulong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the Hunan Rural Special Technology Association; and Liu Zhonghua, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and honorary chairman of the Hunan Rural Special Technology Association, made keynote reports on agricultural science and technology services, green development, development of the pig industry, and the international trade of Chinese tea.
In the science and technology volunteer service training, Tian Feng, director of the China Volunteer Service Research Center, and Zhang Qiang, a professor at the School of Social Development and Public Policy of Beijing Normal University gave lectures. Participants shared their experience of facilitating rural revitalization by science and technology volunteer services.

During the event, 18 academicians and experts visited Hunan's Changsha and Fenghuang counties and inspected the construction of a science and technology site of the China Rural Special Technology Association, which is a scientific and technological talent hub in the rural areas.

In addition, Wang Dongwu, research fellow and deputy director of Hunan Fisheries Science Institute, and He Zhigang and Deng Shiming, associate research fellows of the institute explained knowledge and answered questions of crayfish farmers and business representatives in Panlongling village in Changsha, capital of Hunan province.
