About SJTU

Shanghai Jiao Tong University is a national key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Shanghai Municipality. It is a higher education institution with the longest history in China, and is well-known both at home and abroad. After 126 years of unremitting efforts, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has become a domestic first-class and internationally renowned university. Founded in Shanghai, China, in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) has always taken talent cultivation as its fundamental task. Today, SJTU ranks among the world's top 100 universities and has five campuses covering an area of more than 300 hectares.

SJTU has 33 schools/departments, 12 affiliated hospitals, 2 affiliated medical research institutes, 23 directly affiliated units and 5 directly affiliated enterprises. There are more than 17,000 undergraduates, 14,000 graduate students, 11,000 doctoral students, and over 2,000 international students (including more than 1,000 postgraduates) in full-time study at the university. SJTU has over 3,000 full-time faculty (including more than 1,000 professors and 52 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering). As a comprehensive university, SJTU offers 71 undergraduate programs covering 9 major disciplines: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, and arts.

The level of scientific research and technological innovation of SJTU has seen continuous improvement. In the last 20 years, SJTU has led the country for 12 consecutive years in terms of both the number of projects and the amount of funds received from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2021, the number of papers published in Nature, Science and Cell hit a historical high, with more than 40 publications.
