Zhangjiang Robot Valley, located in Zhangjiang Science City, is one of Shanghai's first characteristic industrial parks and an intelligent manufacturing industry cluster. It has gathered over 60 leading robotics enterprises, innovative enterprises and institutions, with the annual output of its robotics industry reaching 12.6 billion yuan ($1.79 billion).

The valley has prioritized the development of the robotics industry, attracting upstream and downstream companies and opening relevant resources to them. Furthermore, the Zhangjiang Group has invested in upstream and downstream enterprises for better industrial linkage.

Chinese rehabilitation robotics company Fourier Intelligence, which moved to Zhangjiang last year, has enjoyed multiple benefits from the valley's industrial agglomeration efforts. Gu Jie, chairman and CEO of Fourier, said that the valley has provided companies with a talent-concentrated environment, as well as policy and infrastructure support.

Pudong's first one-stop service station for quality infrastructure was launched in the valley this year to improve the quality of robotic products.

Wang Tao, head of the Zhangjiang Robot Valley project, said the valley is expected to build a 1-million-square-meter area for the robotics industry, see its robotics industry reach a value of 70 billion yuan, and nurture 10 listed robotics companies by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.

With a focus on industrial robots and intelligent service robots, the valley will mainly focus on the high-end medical robot industry, while also strengthening the development of key components and controlling software technology for robots. Meanwhile, it will continue efforts to foster key robotics companies by building an accelerator for startup incubation, center for innovative achievement transfers, base for whole industrial chain manufacturing and supporting commercial facilities.
