Professor Xia Fan dedicated to basic research of micro-nanochannels
Xia Fan, a second-level professor and dean of the Faculty of Materials Science and Chemistry at the China University of Geosciences (CUG), has undertaken many national-level research projects and made notable achievements in his basic research over the years.
Under the influence of his grandpa, who was an electrical engineer, Xia became interested in the design and invention of circuit boards when he was a primary school student. Later, he followed Jiang Lei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and Alan J.Heeger, a Nobel laureate in chemistry, to study analytical chemistry for life sciences and biosensors.
The publication of his doctoral dissertation in the journal Advanced Materials laid a solid foundation for Xia to be adept in reading, reflection, debate and experimental verification in the midst of scientific research.
As of now, Xia, a recipient of the State Council Special Allowance, has conducted many important research projects associated with the National Natural Science Foundation and the Ministry of Science and Technology's major scientific research plan.
One of Xia's notable research achievements is the experimental verification of synergistic effect induced by the diaphragms and pathways of micro-nanochannels. The laboratory findings were published in the journal Nature Communications in 2018, and have encouraged more people to take part in relevant studies.
Xia continues to invest his energy to basic research and is looking forward to working together with other scientists in the study of micro-nanochannels.
