'Nature' publishes Oujiang Lab team's latest research results

The Zhejiang Lab for Regenerative Medicine, Vision and Brain Health, or the Oujiang Lab, announced its latest research results in Nature, the world's leading multidisciplinary science journal, on June 7.

The thesis Structural Basis for FGF Hormone Signalling showcases the FGF23, FGFR, Klotho and HS quadriplex molecular machine assembly and signal activation modes for the first time in the world, providing important structural information for the research and development of medicines treating metabolic diseases such as diabetes and chronic nephrosis.

"Metabolism is just like a lamp. The switch to control metabolism can be mechanical or voice-activated and FGF is one such switch," said Li Xiaokun, joint corresponding author of the thesis and chief scientist at Oujiang Lab.

The thesis is believed to lead to highly significant research results in the field of cell growth factor and overturn the scientific community's understanding of the FGF signaling initiation mechanism pattern over the past three decades.

Founded in 2021, Oujiang Lab is one of the 10 major Zhejiang provincial labs. It focuses on research into regenerative medicine as well as vision and brain health.

Currently, the lab employs more than 420 researchers, including eight academicians, and has published more than 600 academic papers in international academic journals, including eight papers in world-class journals.
