Inner Mongolia's milk production accounts for one sixth of the country
"Every six cups of milk consumed in China, one cup comes from Inner Mongolia."
That's according to Zhao Yusheng, the deputy director of the agriculture and animal husbandry department of North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, at the press conference of the World Dairy Industry Conference held in the capital city Hohhot on July 31.
Zhao introduced that Inner Mongolia has implemented a series of supportive policies to vitalize the dairy industry.
In 2022, nine policies and measures were introduced, with an additional subsidy of 1 billion yuan ($142.65 million) based on existing subsidy funds, the issuance of 2 billion yuan of special bonds, and the establishment of 2 billion yuan of dairy vitalization funds.
The focus is on strengthening the weak links in the cattle, forage, and seed sources and promoting the development of the entire dairy industry chain, from grass cultivation to milk production and processing.
Since the beginning of this year, more policies have been taken by Inner Mongolia to boost dairy vitalization further.
For instance, the mechanism for negotiating prices for fresh milk has been established and improved. The purchase and sale of fresh milk have also been standardized, and a pattern of shared benefits and risks has been promoted throughout the industry chain. This ensures stability in both the industrial and supply chains, creating a mutually beneficial and complementary environment.
As the host city of the World Dairy Industry Conference, Hohhot was awarded the "China's Dairy Capital" title in 2005. It has nurtured two leading dairy enterprises, Yili and Mengniu, with annual revenue surpassing 10 billion yuan.
