Building Stronger China-ASEAN Relations

Updated:2023-08-03

Longstanding Human and Cultural Bonds

Hong Kong's ties with ASEAN nations extends to connections between the people, sharing their invaluable connection and knowledge of their home countries. Some of Hong Kong's best-known corporations have ASEAN origins, while established Hong Kong brands have also found success in ASEAN markets.

Beyond its economic potential, the ASEAN's young and increasingly well-educated, digital-savvy new generation also represents a deep well of future talents that Hong Kong's multinationals and start-ups can draw upon. Hong Kong is well placed to provide ASEAN students with world-class education by setting up overseas campuses of our best universities, as an extension of our drive to attract top talent from around the world, including from the Mainland and our Southeast Asian neighbours. There is also room for Hong Kong to play host to ASEAN scholars who wish to engage in China studies and gain first-hand experience here.

The various stages of development and abundant human potential within ASEAN nations, and across the whole of Asia, offer boundless opportunities. Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and the ASEAN have much to gain from the fostering of closer, robust, multi-dimensional ties. Situated at the very centre of this dynamic region, Hong Kong has the strategic edge and prowess to take off in the global race into the future.

The Hong Kong-ASEAN Foundation serves as an independent platform to strengthen relations with the ASEAN through Hong Kong. It seeks to promote mutual understanding and deepen cultural and economic ties among the markets. It is working on a wide spectrum of cultural and academic enrichment programmes, ranging from study field trips, internships to exchange programmes.
