Pudong: A powerhouse of the future
Shanghai's Pudong New Area has always been at the frontier of China's reform and opening-up for the past 33 years and achieved remarkable advances in social and economic development.
Pudong's administrative area spans 1,210 square kilometers and is home to 5.78 million people. Its GDP in 2022 was more than 1.6 trillion yuan ($219.37 billion), a year-on-year increase of 1.1 percent. Though it occupies just 1/8000 of China's land area, Pudong accounts for 1/80 of China's GDP and 1/15 of the country's total import and export volume.
