Hefei holds summit on carbon peak and neutrality

The Summit on High-quality Development Empowered by the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" Strategy and the Academic Seminar on Energy Digital Economy and Industrial Technology.

The Summit on High-quality Development Empowered by the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" Strategy and the Academic Seminar on Energy Digital Economy and Industrial Technology was held in Hefei, East China’s Anhui province, on Oct 23.

Shi Yubo, chairman of China Energy Research Society (CERS), said that during the period of historical opportunities of energy transformation and innovation, the CERS will fully play the role as an energy science and technology think tank. It will actively build a demonstration platform for political, industrial, academic, research, and innovative development, encourage and support enterprises to accelerate the research and development of green low-carbon technologies, strengthen the coordination and cooperation between industry, academia, and research institutes, unite energy science and technology workers, and promote the green low-carbon transformation of energy with scientific and technological innovation. The CERS has established an "Energy Digital Economy and Industrial Technology Expert Service Station" in Anhui and initiated a cooperation mechanism with the Anhui Energy Research Society, to promote the high-quality development of the province's energy and power industry.

The CERS and the Anhui Energy Research Society launched their initiative to strengthen cooperation in academic exchanges, consulting services, research projects, and scientific popularization, and jointly build influential academic groups.

After the opening ceremony of the summit, Guo Jianbo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a senior consultant of the State Grid Corporation of China, and honorary dean of the China Electric Power Research Institute, gave a keynote report on "the construction of a new power system and digital transformation". Yang Kaizhong, an academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, Party chief of the Research Institute for Eco-civilization under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and dean of the College of Applied Economics of University of CASS, gave a keynote report on "a comprehensive analysis framework for green low-carbon development".

Zhao Bingzhen, deputy general manager of State Grid Digital Technology Holdings Co., Ltd.; Xia Wenbo, vice president of Huawei electric power digitalization group; and Fang Fang, vice president of North China Electric Power University, respectively gave special reports on "amplifying the value of digital technology platform, empowering the digital transformation of energy industry", "artificial intelligence empowering the low-carbon green high-quality development of the electric power industry", and "digital twin technology and system of power generation process".

The summit is one of the special events of the 25th Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). The forum was hosted by the CAST and the Anhui Provincial People's Government, organized by the CERS, the Anhui Association for Science and Technology, the State Grid Anhui Electric Power Co., Ltd., and other relevant units, and co-organized by the energy digital economy special committee of the CERS, the Energy Digital Technology and Industry Committee of the CERS, the central enterprise blockchain cooperation and innovation platform, the Anhui Energy Research Society and relevant units.

The theme of the forum is "Use digital means to empower intelligence and energy", aiming to focus on how to promote energy innovation and industry transformation under the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" background. It actively embraces the digital economy innovation wave, focuses on the innovation and development direction of the energy industry in the next 5 to 10 years and the innovative integration and application of energy and digital technology in multiple industries and fields, explores the implementation of Metaverse + Energy development strategy, assists enterprises in discovering new opportunities under the "Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" strategy,  and guides the solid, healthy and orderly development of the industry chain. About 100 representatives from universities, research institutes, energy enterprises, and academic organizations participated in the forum. The forum was also broadcast live online.
