CAST holds new materials technology and industry forum

The new materials technology and industry forum of the 25th Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) was held in Hefei, Anhui province from Oct 20 to 22.

The forum focused on the theme of "innovation in the research-production-application industrial chain to promote the high-quality development of advanced materials industry."

Well-known scientists, academicians, and experts had in-depth discussions on the latest developments, industrial chain status, existing problems in upstream and downstream R&D and application, and the direction of key technologies and ecosystems in the fields of new energy materials and information materials.

The forum was chaired by Tian Zhiling, vice chairman of the Advanced Materials Alliance of CAST Member Societies and executive vice president of the Chinese Society for Metals; and Li Xiaoguang, professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. About 200 experts, scholars, and representatives attended the forum on site, while more than 7,000 people watched online.

Wang Jinzhan, a member of the leading Party group and executive secretary of the Secretariat of CAST, and Li Bifang, deputy secretary-general of the Anhui Provincial Government, delivered speeches.

Wang emphasized the importance of new materials in social progress, technological revolution, and industrial transformation.

He called for strengthening R&D, promoting industry-university-research integration, and said the CAST will support scientific and technological workers in the field of new materials.

Li said that Anhui province has made the new materials industry one of the 10 key emerging industries to be cultivated and developed. Various measures have been taken to promote industrial development, and they look forward to more experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs participating in cooperation and creating win-win situations.

In the forum's keynote report session, Gan Yong gave a report on "Research on China's Key New Materials Development Strategy"; Gao Ruiping gave a report on "Strengthening Basic Research in Materials Science to Better Support High-Level Scientific and Technological Self-Reliance"; Peng Shou gave a report on "Innovation and Development of Silicon-Based New Materials and Applications"; Jiang Chengbao gave a report on "Iron-Based Magnetostrictive Materials and Preparation"; Liu Gang gave a report on "Development of Titanium-Based Oxide Photocatalytic Materials for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production from Water"; and Xu Tongwen gave a report on "Development of Alkaline Ion Membrane Materials for New Energy Fields."

In addition, the Anhui Provincial New Materials Industry Association and Gotion High-tech Co., Ltd. signed strategic cooperation agreements and scientific and technological cooperation framework agreements with the Advanced Materials Alliance of CAST Member Society.

The forum also organized representatives to visit companies such as Vital Thin Film Materials (Anhui) Co. Ltd., Grip Advanced Materials Co., Ltd and Gotion High-tech Co., Ltd.

The forum also discussed the opportunities and challenges of new materials in industry-university-research applications, and played a positive role in promoting the construction of Anhui's new materials science and technology innovation base and industry cluster, as well as the innovative development of new materials technology and industry in China.
