On Feb 4, Jilin athlete Song Qiwu soared an impressive 108 meters high in the final round in the men's team (standard hill) ski jumping competition, securing the gold medal for the Jilin team in the 14th National Winter Games.
With this, the ski jumping events of the 14th National Winter Games drew to a close.
The ski jumping competition commenced at the Chongli Ski Resort in Zhangjiakou city on Jan 3. It featured nine events and had 126 registered athletes.
Both Liu Qi, a seasoned veteran who made a comeback from injury, and Song Qiwu, a promising four-time gold medalist, stated in post-match interviews that they have set their sights on making their mark at the Milan Winter Olympics in two years.
Coinciding with the two-year anniversary of the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Chongli welcomed a large number of spectators on Feb 4.
Resident Gao Song expressed, "Today is a particularly meaningful day. Being able to witness the 14th National Winter Games live on site feels like the best commemoration of the Beijing Winter Olympics. I brought my children today to give them some early exposure to ice and snow sports."
