The Zhejiang Provincial Government recently announced the 2023 "Science and Technology Innovation Pot" award winners, with Longwan district in Wenzhou securing the honor for the third consecutive year.

This prestigious award, the highest in Zhejiang's tech innovation sector, highlights Longwan's robust innovation ecosystem and hard-earned achievements.

Over a decade ago, despite rapid industrial growth, the district faced development bottlenecks due to insufficient innovation. The establishment of the Wenzhou National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in 2012 marked a turning point, making innovation the district's key focus.

Longwan's journey to boost innovation includes building high-level platforms like Oujiang Laboratory and China Eye Valley as well as attracting and nurturing major tech enterprises. For instance, PSI Gene, a startup in China Eye Valley, developed a myopia gene diagnostic product that has benefited thousands of children.

The district also fosters a strong innovation culture among enterprises. Zhejiang Starshine Semiconductor, established just three years ago, has invested nearly 200 million yuan ($27.48 million) in R&D, leading to the successful development of high-end RF filters and modules.

To further boost innovation, Longwan's government has maintained a high fiscal investment in technology, ensuring policies are fully implemented and rewarding outstanding enterprises and teams. This supportive environment has attracted top talent, including national-level experts.

With a focus on AI, new energy, and life sciences, Longwan continues to build innovation alliances and enhance its tech ecosystem, striving for even greater heights in the future.
