Innovative model boosts plum industry development in Yongtai county
Yongtai county in Fuzhou, capital city of East China's Fujian province, has taken innovative measures to develop the plum industry, a distinctive agriculture in local area, to boost its rural vitalization efforts.
In recent years, a transformative initiative has emerged in Geling township, where the party branches of Dongxing, Taikou, Xiyang and Wanshi villages have united to form the Dongxing Central Village Party Committee. Led the Party committee, the villages have pioneered a development model of "Party committee + enterprises + farmers", which emphasizes unified standards, branding and marketing, effectively addressing issues such as limited sales channels, low agricultural product value, and vulnerability to market risks.
During the plum picking season, the Dongxing Central Village Party Committee negotiated with enterprises to set a minimum purchase price. This initiative benefits the plum farmers, resulting in the purchase of 17,500 metric tons of plums from member villages and potentially boosting farmers' income by at least 6 million yuan ($840,000). This approach has created a win-win situation where enterprises support village economic growth, and villages enhance enterprise profitability.
The Central Village Party Committee also led local farmers in accelerating the integration of agriculture, culture and tourism development. Thanks to its efforts, rural rejuvenation in Yongtai unfolds like a picturesque painting, showcasing the harmonious blend of nature and human endeavor.
By embracing innovative strategies and collaborative efforts, Yongtai county is paving the way for a prosperous future where agricultural traditions and modern practices converge to create sustainable growth and prosperity.
